My mom and I share a love for politics. We aren't political science majors by any means but we listen, observe and enjoy debating the ins and outs of what's happening around the country and around the world. So, when she found out about Voto Latino's Crash The Parties competition she urged me to submit the requested 1 minute video. I jumped at the chance to throw my name in the ring once I found out what the competition would entail, a chance to crash the Democratic National Convention. A dream for me. I shot my video immediately, talked about what I am most passionate about and left the rest to the Universe. And, that's where my Crash The Parties journey began.
I am so excited to finally share (I had to keep this a secret for several days) that after 3 rounds of competition, too many days to count and teamwork from my family, friends, online buddies and my hometown school district I have been chosen as the DNC Crash The Parties winner! Holy Moley!
Here's how it went down. Last Tuesday, while at a laundry mat doing my weekly laundry duties I got a call from Maria Theresa Kumar, the founder of Voto Latino. (Side note: I've admired this woman for many years. So, to get a call from her was pretty amazing!) After she told me I had been chosen to be the DNC winner she also said that I had two days to prep because they were flying me to Las Vegas for the Voto Latino Power Summit, where they would officially make the announcement.
Here are just a few images from this weekend.
Stay tuned here for more as I document my journey from now until the DNC in July. In the meantime, want to use your voice to promote change? Watch this video below and join the BRAVE.
